Are All Workers Covered By Insurance While At My Home?

YES, but the answer may not be what you want to hear.   If they do not have valid coverage in-place, they are working with YOUR insurance coverage.

Keeping in mind that a installing a new roof is a major construction project, filled with potential danger, you MUST KNOW if the roofers that are going to be working at your home have full coverage to protect you -- from them!

Asking any contractor to prove that they have insurance is an absolute MUST DO even for the smallest project.    If their proof is showing you an insurance certificate, the answer in 90% of the cases --- "NO," they are not insured for roofing, and possibly not insured for anything to do with construction.

Insurance certificates can be downloaded from the Internet, filled-out, printed and ready to share with you, the possibly uninformed buyer.    Certificates can be 100% valid, and they look the same for insurance coverage for painting, carpentry and even landscaping, so "BUYER BEWARE."

There is only ONE way to determine if the certificate you have been given is legitimate, and will protect you and your property should there be an accident during your new roof installation - request that a valid certificate be sent to you via email, directly from the insurance carrier (agent).

The certificate you receive via email proves the contractor has insurance, but please take one more step in this process and call the carrier or agent and ask one question -- does this coverage include residential roofing in your city and state?

If you are dealing with a larger roofing firm in your area, the coverage will most likely be valid and extend to coverage for roofing.   But, are you willing to risk it?   It takes only a few minutes to protect you from years of misery dealing with the legal community.
