What is the Fortified Home Program | worth the added costs?

Fortified Home Program

What is the FORTIFIED Home Program

Have you heard about the Fortified Roof Program?

Depending upon your insurance carrier's level of involvement, you could save as much as 35% on the wind and hail portion of your homeowners' insurance costs - every year for up to 10 years (with a Bronze-level certification)!

Every "admitted carrier" in Alabama has a slightly different savings plan, so do talk your agent before making a Fortified Home decision.

To have your new roof certified under the Fortified Home program, you begin with an inspection by a third-party group that has been pre-qualified by the program to perform a thorough inspection that will tell us exactly what must be addressed, in addition to a new roof built to their standards.

How does Fortifed Home Program works

This first step MUST happen to have any opportunity to gain any level of certification, and costs between $75 and $150, depending on the company you select.    Again, this only tells you and us what must be done, and how we are to validate that it was, in fact, completed correctly.

This "other stuff" is what can get costly, and why you need to learn of all the requirements before you take the Fortified HOME plunge.   You might need to retrofit the soffit and gable areas of your home, or possibly other portions of your home - proceed with caution!

After the work is completed, there is a final inspection performed, and assuming every detail was completed and documented correctly, your completed application will be forwarded to the state agency that makes a final determination.

There is an added cost of (an estimated amount) of $300-$500 for this final inspection that is paid directly to the inspection company, not to us unless we have made other arrangements in advance.

Once you have received the Bronze-Level Certificate, you will need to take or send this to your insurance agent to confirm your participation in the program and begin receiving the discounts that are mandated by the Alabama Department of Insurance.    The actual timing of your discount period may be at or after your next renewal date, so please discuss this information with your agent.
