Picking the Right Shingle for your Home in 2022

What Type of Shingles Do I Need?
Asphalt shingles, or composite shingles, are the most common roofing shingles used in America. They are low maintenance, protective, and come in various colors and styles, making them an easy win! Let’s learn the difference between the three major categories of asphalt shingles.

Luxury Shingles
The name gives it away…these high-quality shingles offer lasting protection and an up-leveled appearance. Luxury shingles provide the closest resemblance to a wood shake or quarried slate roof style.

Dimensional Shingles

These are the most common asphalt shingles. Dimensional shingles have improved warranty protection due to the two or more layers used to create a heavier strip shingle. The rich, layered design offers a multi-dimensional appearance lending to a natural shake or slate roofing style. Dimensional shingles may also be referred to as architectural or laminate shingles.

Strip Shingles

Due to their single-layer design, strip shingles are the lightest and most cost-effective asphalt shingle option available. The single-layer resembles the traditional smooth slate-style roof. These shingles are most often used by homeowners who already have strip shingles.

Benefits of Asphalt Shingles

Be sure to consider the other benefits asphalt shingles have to offer! Ask your roofing professional and insurance provider about what type of shingle is best for your area. Some options may be algae prevention, cooling technology, weather protection – some may get you a discount on homeowner’s insurance! And finally, all asphalt shingles are fire resistant to let you rest assured you made the right roofing choice!

Increase Curb Appeal

Your first thought when it comes to replacing your roof may not be, “What color should it be?” But in today’s housing market, with HGTV, Pinterest, and Instagram as a plethora of design sources, curb appeal ends up high on the list of priorities. So, how can you increase curb appeal with new shingles? Take a few (ok, many) steps back from your home and take in all of the colors you have working for you now…siding, fascia, window trim, shutters, etc. What style is your home? Traditional or contemporary? Now look at your neighborhood and think about what will blend in or stand out. Don’t be afraid to ask your roofer for pictures of previous work in your area for inspiration! Now that you’ve done your design research pick out 2-3 styles and colors to determine what shingles would best accent your home.
