5 Tips To Help Decide On The Right Color Shingle For Your Home

Picking the best shingle to fit your home is a BIG decision! There are a lot of elements to consider when selecting the ideal shingle color. The right color shingle needs to be able to coordinate with your home's brick, siding, door, and trim colors! The right color shingle will give your home a more considerable curb appeal and increase the value of your home. Here are some great tips to consider when making the big roofing decision.

Research Shingles In Your Neighborhood

When trying to find the right color shingle for your home, see what your neighbors have and how the color interacts with the siding or brick color of the home. If you find colors that stand out that you love, make a note of it! For example, does dark color roofing stand out more or light color? What about a brown roof? Find homes with similar color tones or your home's exterior and see what color roofing stands out. Don't be afraid to pick a color that stands out from your neighbors' homes. But remember location matters! If you live in a warmer climate, you may want to consider a lighter-colored roof. Lighter roofing will help reflect UV rays and keep your home cooler in the hot summer months.

Use our Roof Visualizer

Another great resource is using our virtual tool. Simply take a photo of the exterior of your home and use the computer software to see all the different style and color options. Once you have an idea of what you like, it is important to take the next step – looking at the actual samples.

Check The Color Samples

When receiving a quote for new roofing, ask for a color board. We can provide a panel that has several different actual samples attached. There are many colors to choose from:  browns, tans, blues, grays, blacks, greens, and even reddish colors. Eliminate the ones you dislike. Once you have an idea of colors you might be interested in, you can request larger sample sizes to get a better idea of how it will look.

See What Colors Flow With Your Outdoor Exterior

Your roof needs to be able to coordinate with all the other exterior features of the home. The shingle color also needs to mesh with your home's aesthetic, the natural surroundings, and the rest of your exterior elements. Picking out the best color will compliment your home's architecture and increase your home's curb appeal. Take each shingle sample and move it around your home, prop it up by your brick, by your siding, your door, your trim, your garage door, and by any exterior stonework you have. This process can help narrow down to final color choices.

Look At Samples At Different Times Of Day

Colors can change drastically depending on the time of day and the amount of direct sunlight reflecting off the roofing color. So make sure to take a look at your sample at different times of the day. See how the color looks with harsh light versus soft light, full shade, and direct sun.
